glowing effect

In this tutorial you will be learning to turn simple text like this:

into cute, glowing text like this:

or this:

I'm using Adobe Photoshop CS2 but I'm you will probably be able to follow along in different programs, with slight changes.

Start by writing whatever you like. I chose "candy". I wrote it in a light pink. Then, rasterize the layer. (you only need to do this if you are working on text).

Duplicate this layer twice.

Layer >> Duplicate layer...

Next, stroke the middle layer with the color white, width 3px. (If you are using a smaller or bigger picture the size may change)

Edit >> Stroke
Width: 3px, Color: white (click on the colored box to change the color)

Your image should now look like this:

Stroke the layer underneath (bottom layer) with 3px of any darker color. I chose the color pink.
You shouldn't be able to see this color unless you minimize the layer on top.

Put the effect Gaussian Blur on the bottom layer and set the radius to around 2 pixels.

Filter >> Blur >> Gaussian Blur

You will now have this:

To see how to make the text appear to be more dynamic & puffy, read on!

In the Layer pannel, double click on the first layer (no outlines on this one) after where the text ends (otherwise it'll bring an option to edit the layer's name).

It should bring up something that looks like this:

Change your settings to look like mine.

Voila! You're done!

Remember that if you're working with an image you probably won't want to make it bevelled or it'll look weird. :S
